Lake Shikotsu

Lake Shikotsu, famous for its clear and beautiful water, is about 60 minutes by car from Sapporo and 40 minutes by car from New Chitose Airport. It is a sightseeing spot where you can easily enjoy the beautiful natural scenery. Here you can take a tour boat to see the appearance of the transparent lake, or take a walk by the lake, and enjoy the red trout (チップ) dish and local specialty desserts bred by the clear lake.

Lake Shikotsu is a crater lake with a shoreline of 40km, surrounded by steep mountains such as Mount Eniwa and Mount Tarumae. The deepest depth of the lake is 360m, making it the second deepest lake in Japan. Because of this, the convection of the lake is strong. Even in the cold winter, the lake hardly freezes. It is the northernmost non-freezing lake in Japan.

Jigokudani

Jigokudani is located in Noboribetsu, which has a high reputation as a hot spring area. The explosive crater trace caused by the eruption of Mount Hiyori is about 450 meters in diameter and about 11 hectares in area. It is the largest spring source in Noboribetsu. There are many eruptions and fumaroles in the valley. Because of the eruption of volcanic gas and high-temperature hot springs, the surrounding area is always covered by hot air. The appearance is reminiscent of hell, which is the origin of the place name.

Lake Toya

Lake Toya, located in Shikotsu-Toya National Park, is the third largest caldera lake in Japan. The silo observatory located on the hill next to the lake can overlook the area around Lake Toya, and you can enjoy the National Highway No. 230 along the west bank of Lake Toya, Lake Toya, Mt. .

Jozankei

Jozankei is located in the south of Sapporo, a hot spring town less than an hour's drive from the center of Sapporo. The autumn leaves of Jozankei, designated as a national park, are best viewed from late September to mid-October. There are 5 red leaf areas and scenic spots in Jozankei recommended by the Jozankei Hot Spring Tourism Association, one of which is the Jozankei Hot Spring Area. The autumn leaves seen from the suspension bridge in the Toyohira River Valley are beautiful! The suspension bridge itself is a net beauty spot, and the scenery enjoyed by the upper reaches of the Toyohira River together with the Futami Suspension Bridge is even more impressive.

Mount Moiwa Ropeway

Mount Moiwa, 531 meters above sea level, is a scenic spot that is easily accessible from downtown Sapporo. The observatory on the top of the mountain can overlook the streets of Sapporo, and Ishikari Bay can be seen in the distance on sunny days. In autumn, the primary forest begins to be dyed red and yellow, and the scenery becomes very colorful.

It is recommended to take the aerial cable car and mountaineering cable car to the top of the mountain. From the Shanshan Station, the aerial cable car will run to the Mountainside Station. When taking the aerial cable car to the mountainside, you can take the rear car, and when you go down the mountain, you can take the front car, so that you can enjoy the beautiful scenery with a wide perspective and return with a full load.
