TTtrips Kumano Kodo FAQ

Q: There are several Kumano Kodo routes. Which one is recommended for first-time hikers?
We highly recommend the Nakahechi Route. It is the best-marked trail with convenient access to facilities and covers the most iconic historic sites and shrines, making it the top choice for first-time pilgrims.

Q: Can I complete the hike if I don't hike regularly? How difficult is it?
The Nakahechi Route is considered moderately challenging (comparable to intermediate mountain trails in Taiwan, such as Mount Jiali). The main challenge is hiking over multiple consecutive days. TTtrips provides private vehicle support, luggage transfer service, and optional shuttle arrangements if you become fatigued. We also offer pre-departure training guidance and hiking support, so beginners can join with confidence.

Q: What is the "Dual Pilgrim" certificate?
The Dual Pilgrim certificate is one of the highest honors for pilgrims worldwide. Travelers who complete the designated pilgrimage routes of both the Camino de Santiago in Spain and the Kumano Kodo in Japan are eligible to apply for official registration and receive the Dual Pilgrim certificate.

Q: What equipment should I prepare? What happens if it rains?
You should prepare lightweight mid-cut or high-cut hiking boots, quick-drying clothing, waterproof rain gear, trekking poles, and warm layers. A detailed packing list will be provided before departure. In the event of heavy rain, your guide will assess the conditions and adjust the hiking route or arrange cultural experience activities when necessary.
