Choui Fong Tea

Our founder, Thawee Wanaspitaksakul, planted his first plantation at Doi Payapai Mae Fah Luang in 1977, envisioning a tea that would impress customers from every corner of the world. He relentlessly pursued perfection through the use of time-honored methods, continually improving expertise and, above all, studying and understanding the local soil and climate.

After nearly three decades of learning and experience, Mr. Wanaspitaksakul was ready to open a second plantation that would meet his exacting standards. His search for the ideal location led him to Mae Chan, where he established operations in 2003.

Today, Choui Fong Tea remains a family-owned and operated tea producer. We proudly carry on our founder’s mandate by dedicating ourselves to delivering high quality products and a profound tea experience to our customers. Our family also strives to extend our founder’s legacy by operating a sustainable business that contributes to our community, promotes a healthy lifestyle, and conserves natural resources.

The tea garden produces green tea, oolong tea, Assam tea, black tea, fragrant slices, Tieguanyin and Pu'er, etc.

Doi Tung Royal Villa

DTDP was initiated by Her Royal Highness Princess Srinagarindra (the Princess Mother) and is operated by the Mae Fah Luang Foundation under Royal Patronage.

Established in 1988, it covers an area of 29 villages in Mae Fah Luang and Mae Sai districts, Chiang Rai Province, with a total population of 11,000 people of six ethnic groups – Akha, Lahu, Shan, Tai Lue, Lua, and Yunnanese.

Doi Tung is located in the centre of the Golden Triangle, which in the past was a leading centre for the production and trafficking of illicit drugs of the world.

The region was made up of denuded mountains, with forests having been destroyed by slash and burn cultivation. Most villagers in the area were stateless, lived in dire poverty without any basic public amenities, and were uneducated. Furthermore, there were armed militia in the area, so the villagers had no livelihood choices, resorting to deforestation, opium poppy cultivation, drug and sex trafficking for their own survival.

Golden Triangle Park

The Golden Triangle is located in an educational park on the border of Myanmar, Laos and Thailand. It used to be famous for producing opium. The rolling hills of the Golden Triangle were once filled with brightly colored poppy fields used to harvest and extract opium, and hill tribe villages were heavily involved in the production, use and trade of the drug. Thailand has since banned the sale of opium and cracked down on production and trafficking, and has made great strides in rehabilitating affected communities by encouraging the production of wholesome alternatives such as vegetables and tea.

Golden Triangle Park overlooks the confluence of three countries and two rivers. There is a huge golden Buddha statue here, sitting on a boat-shaped platform.

Gaze out at the mighty Mekong River from the heights of the observation deck, then take a boat ride across it to experience this important waterway more intimately. Longtail boats can be chartered to cross the river and shuttle between the coasts of Thailand, Laos and Myanmar. Take a cruise on the Mekong River and enjoy the view from the comfort of a boat, chartering a longtail boat to cross the river and shuttle between Thailand, Laos and Myanmar.
