Through the ocean, we can connect with the world, face the waves against the wind, step on the side of the ship, look at the endless blue in front of us, feel the breath of the sea, the vastness will make you forget all your troubles,

Close your eyes and imagine the unknown front, the novelty and beauty are waiting for you, you will experience how vast and beautiful the sea really is.

Taiwan is surrounded by oceans. It was called "Formosa" in the era of great voyages. It has a changeable coastal terrain, and different ocean currents flow from east to west. These are Taiwan's unique treasures on the sea. Before sailing to the world Through our own rich marine resources, we can hone our understanding of sailboats and manoeuvre skills, deeply feel the charm of the blue sea, and take the first step towards the world. If you want to travel by sailboat, there is a lot of homework to do in advance. The first thing to consider is "Where is the boat going to be parked?". Because the boat is not like a car, it can be parked on the side of the road if you want. After the docking, the force of the waves and the wind will continue to act, and the boat that has been parked in the port will be brought with you. If you park on the shore at will side, hit a rock and get damaged or get stranded and stuck in the sand. So it is important to have a safe and stable place to moor ships, and this place is the ports of all sizes.

Let us first take a look at the ports in Taiwan where sailboats can be moored!

Sailboat mooring port status

Because of the "sea ban" in Taiwan in the early days, everyone started very late in contacting maritime activities, which also affected their willingness to "go sailing". So far, boats are still mainly fishing, and recreational boats and sailboats are still not popular. Therefore, there are not many ports in Taiwan for yachts and sailboats. In recent years, in order to promote marine activities, the government has planned The "exclusive yacht berthing area" is used by players (sailboats are also considered yachts), which is usually used as a "home port" for long-term berthing, that is, a "parking (boat) yard" for ships. If you want to experience sailing activities, or you already have your own sailboat, it is recommended to add the time required for driving, or the inconvenience of nearby functions, etc., and then consider whether to use it as a home port, because in addition to the berthing function In addition, the port is also a place for ship maintenance, supply of water, electricity or fuel and other materials, so the completeness of the port's own equipment should also be considered. Although Taiwan has the reputation of "Yacht Kingdom", most of them are exported to other countries, and it is a pity that it has not become our popular leisure activity.

When parked at the port, in addition to checking the condition of the ship itself, another important thing is the supply. Whether it is fresh water, food or other materials on the ship, it needs to be fully replenished during the stay in the port to ensure that the next voyage is safe. At this time, the basic equipment owned by the port itself is indispensable. The main facilities that will be inspected in the port are: shore water, shore power, fuel oil, and ice.

shore water

Usually refers to fresh water. There is a built-in water tank on the sailboat, whether it is used for drinking, cooking, washing, etc., fresh water will be used; after sailing, the fresh water will be consumed. When docking at the port, it is very important to replenish fresh water! (After filling the water tank on the boat, the weight of the water can also play a role in stabilizing the hull). In addition, in addition to supplementing the water on board, the motor on board also has a cooling system, which usually uses seawater, but because of the high salinity of seawater, the cooling system may have a lot of crystallization and sediments, and flushing with fresh water can be extended. Time, which is also one of the functions of fresh water on the shore (cleaning usually means that the boat will not be used for a period of time, and when it is to be pulled to the shore, flushing with fresh water is to prevent the sediment from having a chance of corrosion). Therefore, if the port does not provide water pipes and other equipment for the ship to replenish and use fresh water, it will be very troublesome to sail.

shore power

When the ship is berthed, although the main engine will be turned off, the ship will still use electricity, including refrigerators, air conditioners, heating, instrument control, oil pumps, water pumps, and other household electricity, so the engine is required to provide power generation. , instead of burning diesel for power supply, at this time, it is necessary to transform the power supply on the shore through the cable to provide the power required by the ship. (There will be smoke when burning diesel, and the air pollution in the port can be reduced by using shore power.) However, when charging, pay attention to whether the voltages on both sides are compatible, otherwise the electrical appliances on the ship will be damaged! So make sure you have a transformer on board before you set off. In addition, the use of shore power is also to recharge the batteries on board and reduce diesel consumption.

fuel

When sailing in and out of the port, or when there is absolutely no wind at sea, it needs to rely on the power of the so-called "outboard" or "inboard" to move forward, that is, the motor drives the paddle to move forward, control the direction, and then dock. The terminal needs diesel as fuel to operate. Therefore, you need to pay attention to the condition of the oil drums on the boat, just like the car is almost out of oil and needs to be refueled! Therefore, when berthing, it is best to choose a port that can replenish fuel, or a port with a gas station nearby, it will be more convenient to replenish! In addition to filling up the oil tank, you can also prepare several barrels of spare oil depending on the length of the voyage. The premise is that please remember the engine of your sailboat and whether the engine uses diesel or gasoline (although there are gasoline engines, but diesel engines are still the bulk), be careful that refueling will damage the engine! After understanding these basics, first follow the orange weaving, from north to south, go around Taiwan counterclockwise, and come to see the various ports!

ice cubes

When going to sea, if you go out on a sailboat, whether you are fishing on the boat, or buying seafood at the fishing port and bringing it to the boat, ice cubes are an important way to keep fresh, which can keep the catch fresh, the meat quality is not hard, and help the people on the boat. personnel to ensure food sources. In addition, if there are enough ice cubes to cool the food first, it can also reduce the electricity consumption after putting it in the refrigerator. Therefore, if the port can buy ice cubes nearby (usually there are also styrofoam boxes that can be purchased for easy handling), it will save a lot of trouble.

big boat marina

Dazhou Company started with yacht manufacturing, extended to yacht service, and built its own pier, with the northern part as the base for development; the pier is located in the Danshui River of Bali. Due to the serious siltation of the Danshui River, the water level is too low when the tide is low, and if the draft of the boat is too heavy, it may be stuck in the silt and unable to move.

Hsinchu Fishing Port

There is a "17km Coastal Scenic Area" nearby. It is located next to the urban area, and it is convenient to supply daily necessities. However, the port itself has serious sand accumulation, and even experienced old captains will get stuck here. The local fishermen teach you a little step. , sailing about 20 meters close to the shore, you can drive the sailboat into the port!

Penghu Yaguo Marina: This article focuses on the ports of Taiwan's main island; non-local ports will be introduced separately in future route planning.

I don’t know if you have discovered it. Why did you skip the four counties and cities of Miaoli, Taichung, Changhua and Yunlin after Hsinchu Fishing Port? There's a reason for this. For example, in the fishing port of Hsinchu, due to the serious drifting of sand, the port is often dredged and dredged; the central Taichung port is also plagued by tides and silt, and the famous "Waiyandingzhou" is located in the outer sea of Yunjia. , is a sandbar that may be "the 15th day of the first day is different" (that is to say, it is often changing). Even large merchant ships and cargo ships will carefully sail around this place, for fear that they will run aground if they are not careful; The oyster shed in the offshore shoal is also one of the reasons why the boat is afraid of getting stuck; in addition, this area is also very close to the area where the "black water ditch" is often heard. If you run aground and sail too far to the open sea, the current in the Heishuigou will be strong, which is a "super difficult" area! Because of the inconvenience of entering and leaving the port due to these factors, there are not many ports suitable for mooring yachts and sailboats.

Princess Budai Yacht Harbor

There are high-heeled shoes church, Budai Port, Haomili 3D Ocean World Outdoor Art Museum, Dongshi Fisherman's Wharf and other leisure attractions nearby. Xibin Expressway is also nearby, and the transportation is convenient; in addition, the boat to Penghu will also depart from Budai Port, so This is also the starting point of island hopping to Penghu.

Houbihu Yacht Harbor

There is a large coral area nearby, which is a great diving spot. There are also other water activities such as jet skis, banana boats, etc. In addition, it is a port with excellent shelter from the wind. The port has high static stability and can be seen before the typhoon. Go to the many ships to take shelter from the wind and waves.

How to distinguish the static stability of the port?

It can be observed whether the ships will enter the port to take shelter before the typhoon: the wind and waves caused by the typhoon will cause the docked ships to collide and damage each other. If the static stability in the port is not good, the probability of damage to the ship will increase. Maintenance is another sum. The higher the static stability, the less the ship will sway, the less chance of collision with other ships, or the more stable the ship is when people are moving on the ship.

As for the east, because of the Kuroshio (flowing from south to north) and the high mountains in the east, the sediment flowing from the mountains is carried north by the tide, and the port usually has the problem of silting, so the small port in the middle Regular dredging of sand is required, which is not suitable for long-term mooring of sailboats. However, if the voyage is long, it is still possible to suspend replenishment at the fishing port midway.

Hualien Port

The special feature is that there is a very long (over 3 km!) breakwater outside the port! There are many bulk ships entering and leaving the port, so be careful when berthing and pay attention to avoid collision; currently, it is a sister port with Ishigaki Island in Japan, only more than 100 kilometers away from Ishigaki City, and there are plans for mutual navigation in the future.
