About the Shakaro Trail

Altitude: 1600 - 1900 meters, about 20 kilometers in length

Difficulty: ●●○○○ ｜ About 6.5 hours round trip

The "Xia Kaluo Ancient Road" spans Wufeng Township and Jianshi Township in Hsinchu County. The total length of the ancient road was 49.2 kilometers. After the renovation and expansion, there are only 22 kilometers left. It takes a long time to hike, but there are many entrances and exits, so you can see the walking distance. Adjusting the route, and the road is gentle and easy to walk, and the trees on both sides of the road provide shade, in addition to the autumn and winter maple leaf season, the summer climate is cool and pleasant, it is a very suitable route for travel all year round.

How to get there (Yoyo Mountain Trail Parking Lot)

1. By car (from Taipei): Take National Highway No. 3 and Zhongfeng Highway/Neishan Highway/Tai3 Line to Zhongshan Street Section 1/120 County Road in Hengshan Township. Take Zhu 60 Township Road and Xiuluan Road to Jin Road in Jianshi Township and reach the old-age liaison road to reach the old-age mountain entrance.

2. Chartered car (departing from the residence): Order a chartered car service on the official website of Orange Cat Travel Charter before departure, and you can depart from the residence at the designated time and go directly to the destination.

 

Preparation before departure

1. Waterproof and grippy rain boots or hiking boots

This time we went to the beginning of December 2020 (there is a video of the latest maple conditions in Xia Kaluo in November 2021!), and we took the route at that time with the best maple conditions and the most lush road opened by the maple leaves. The distance is about 12 kilometers, and the whole journey takes about 6.5 hours. The following are the hiking records (the maple leaves will vary according to the season, please refer to the actual flower conditions):

At 9:30 in the morning, I arrived at the old-age mountain trail. After entering the trail, it is mostly a gentle primitive dirt road. It is still easy to walk without too steep slopes. However, if it rains or is wet, the road will become terribly muddy, and it is very easy to slippery and difficult to walk, so I sincerely recommend that you wear waterproof And rain boots or hiking boots with good grip and trekking poles can have the strength and mood to enjoy the flowers in a leisurely manner.

 

When you come to 19K, you will first see the explanation board of "Charcoal Kiln". We have also seen traces of charcoal kilns on other ancient roads before. These pits are actually smoldering kilns when charcoal was produced in the early days. The part that comes down, you can take a closer look when you pass by.

 

After walking for about 15 minutes, you will arrive at the "Liyuan Station Site", which is also considered by the group members to be a dreamy section of the ancient Xia Kaluo Road, because the narrow dirt road is surrounded by a large dense bamboo forest of Mengzong. Even the sky was almost covered by the bamboo forest.

 

On the way from Liyuan to Wushen's residence, it is the most suitable section of the whole section for viewing maple trees. Looking from the trail to the distance, the maple trees on the entire mountain have turned yellow, and the trail is also full of the most beautiful orange color of maple leaves.
